How to Clean and Disinfect your iPhone

A lot of people are in constant contact with our iPhones. As a result, iPhones can be a potent “storehouse” for various germs, microorganisms, and fingerprints.
It is advisable to clean and disinfect your iPhone regularly, particularly in the flu season and presently in this pandemic period.
There are specific instructions from Apple for cleaning iPhones, depending on the model.

Cleaning Instructions for iPhone 11 to 11 Pro Max
Apple’s iPhone models 11, 11 Pro, and Pro Max are highly water-resistant than other iPhones, meaning these models can be washed more meticulously than different iPhone types.

  • Remove all connected cables and switch the iPhone off
  • With a soft, moist, and a clean cloth, gently rub off all dirt from the phone screen.
  • If dirt persists, clean the iPhone again using a soft fluffy cloth, warm water, and soap.

Cleaning Instructions for iPhones XS, 8, and Older Models
Apple does not recommend the use of warm water and soap for these phone models.

  • Remove all connected cables and switch the iPhone off.
  • With a soft, moist, and a clean cloth, gently rub off all dirt from the phone screen.
  • Don’t let moisture permeate the openings of the iPhone.

These instructions don’t specifically pertain to phone disinfection, but Apple discourages using harsh products and hard materials because they can affect or scratch off the Oleophobic covering.

How to Disinfect your iPhone
Sanidry EPA registered Sanitizing Wipes are an effective way of removing germs and disease-causing microorganisms from your iPhone. On Mar. 9, 2020, Apple updated its official cleaning guide to say that disinfecting wipes are an acceptable way to clean your iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and other Apple products. Sanidry Sanitizing Wipes are the ideal solution for cleaning and sanitizing your phone.

  • With the dampened wipe, clean the iPhone thoroughly, both the front and the back.
  • To ensure all the corners are disinfected, clean all the edges with a cotton bud or swab.
  • An alternative is to use a slightly moist cloth with Rosmar BioQuatt One-Step Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution to clean all around the phone, including the sides and edges.

When trying a new cleaning product or spray, it is advisable to do a spot test to check if the product is suitable or compatible with your phone. Apply the product to a small spot on the iPhone to see if it causes damages of any sort to the coating.
Products composed of bleach and other harsh substances must be avoided at all costs as these are too abrasive for iPhone surfaces.

Cleaning the Lightning Ports
Apart from the phone display, other parts of the phone are equally prone to dirt or dust particles. The lightning port can quickly accumulate dirt and dust that may make it difficult for the iPhone to charge. Fortunately, there is a solution.

  • Switch the iPhone off.
  • With a toothpick, gently take out any noticeable lint in the lightning port.
  • You can use a flashlight to check the port and make sure it is clean.
  • Using a toothpick, clean the grilles of the speaker and other places that have gathered dust.

Another iPhone cleaning tip is to clean and change your phone case and screen guard or cover periodically to prevent dirt from accumulating in them. Also, ensure to use the proper and recommended cleaning agents to avoid damaging your device.
